Volume Calculation – Average Earthwork Method
This is a very simple method of area calculation. In the example below, average of all the grid levels is taken and it is multiplied with the area of the work site with difference in the level.
This method can be used only when it is a full-cutting or a full-filling project. In case of a partial-cutting and a partial-filling project, because of the average, cutting and filling get nullified and the calculated volume will be incorrect.

Average Level = 17.25
If Formation Level is 20, then
Volume = Area (15 * 18) * difference in depth (20 – 17.25) = 742.50m3
